As we conclude our three-part journey through the evolution of women’s golf fashion, we arrive at the moment where tradition meets innovation, setting the stage for a new era...

1980's

The 1980s were a transformative time in women's golf fashion, heavily influenced by the vibrant pop culture of the era. With iconic films like The Breakfast Club and Back to the Future shaping trends, bold colors and daring patterns became the hallmark both on and off the course. Golfers sought a blend of comfort and breathability, embracing classic cuts while experimenting with the era's eye-catching styles.

Trailblazing players like Amy Alcott and Cindy Rarick (pictured) set the tone, balancing top-tier performance with a flair for fashion. As the visibility of female sports surged, so did the demand for powerful, confident looks—ushering in the era of Girl Boss energy. The 1990s built on this momentum, a formative decade for women’s golf, with American stars like Annika Sörenstam and Juli Inkster (pictured) driving the LPGA Tour to new heights of popularity.

1990-2000's

Fashion in the '90s reflected broader cultural shifts, with a move towards more relaxed, sporty aesthetics. Soft pastels, polo shirts, relaxed-fit pants, and golf skirts became staples, blending comfort with style. Visors remained a favorite, while baseball caps and bucket hats gained traction for their practicality and sun protection. Little did the women of that decade know, they were paving the way for the chic sun hats we adore today!

As the 2000s rolled in, athleisure took center stage, infusing women’s golf fashion with the flexibility and performance of athletic wear. The look became more streamlined, with tailored fits, capris, and slim-fit pants dominating the scene. Shorter skorts and sleeveless polos evolved from daring trends to everyday essentials in the golf world.

And so, Marie Birdie was born! Thank you to all our Birdies for joining us on this stylish journey through the history of women’s golf fashion—what a walk it’s been!
